Distinct Vacations × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

A July study.
Distinct Vacations designs personalized luxury trips around meaningful moments, working with trusted local partners and private guides; public listings place the practice in Fairfield, New Jersey. Founder Belkys Pastor came to travel advising in 2013 after more than twenty years in finance, a résumé that reads like a promise of itineraries kept to the minute. The biography she publishes stays warmly specific. She shares her life with her husband and two sons; a Beagle rounds out the house, and wine and chocolate appear by name, as pleasures worth planning around.
The monogram is what asked for the study. A lowercase dv drawn in one fine unbroken line, very dark teal, its flourishes running long and level like a cruising altitude. Beneath it sit black serif capitals, DISTINCT VACATIONS, over a small letterspaced gray line reading “LUXURY TRAVEL DESIGNERS”. To a maker of luggage tags, a signature that behaves like a hand-drawn route is an open invitation; whether that resemblance was planned or simply happened is more than we could tell from the file.

Deep forest green follows the monogram's dark teal, and pale gray-sand follows the quiet gray of the small type and the calm, unhurried spaces of their site. Black carries the lockup in gold foil. At tag scale the tiny letterspaced descriptor would press into a smudge, so the stamp keeps the monogram and the serif capitals and leaves the small line to the page.
One unbroken route
The companion design lets the line finish its thought. A single stroke writes the cursive dv, then keeps going until it has climbed into a small airplane, wheels up, still one line. An early version banked the plane back toward the letters, and it read like a cancelled trip; the climb stayed.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
