Hologic × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.
A September study.
For Hologic.
For the warm-up, we put the HOLOGIC wordmark on the luggage tags, run lengthwise the way it reads – on navy, the deep blue the wordmark itself wears, and on pale warm greige, the way it sits on their own white page. The black tag carries the gold.
Next, we drew the sign for woman as a scientific instrument. The circle became a lens reticle – fine ticks at the rim, one point held exactly at center – with SINCE 1985 beneath, the year the work began.
On the keychains it looks genuinely beautiful. The black fob takes the gold.
The same mark rides the lower right corner of the toiletry bags – navy over deep espresso.
Then, we took "The Science of Sure" and drew it happening – a trace that starts out wavering and settles into one steady line, closing on a firm point. THE SCIENCE OF SURE runs beneath.
And finally, the journals, with the steady line in the lower right corner of the cover – navy and pale warm greige. Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
