Karlton Miko Tyack × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Karlton Miko Tyack.

First, we borrowed the patent office's oldest promise and rewrote it for leather. PATINA PENDING, set in an oval seal around an hourglass that has just been turned – the goods leave our bench unfinished on purpose, and the years are expected to do the rest.

We pressed the seal into a trio of luggage tags, in warm tan and deep wine. The black tag carries it in gold.

The same seal sits in the corner of the toiletry bags, warm tan over chestnut whose pull-up mottling is patina already underway. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Next, a watch dial with the hands at ten past ten – the hour every watch in every advertisement has ever told. We figured a watch writer should own the industry's manufactured smile.

On the keychains it reads like a dial on its strap, warm tan beside black. The black fob takes it in gold, like gilt print on a black dial.

Then the catchall tray in golden tan, with the dial at generous size. A tray is where a watch spends the night – this one keeps the hour it was set to.

And finally, the journals. A loupe over a fingerprint, beneath the words ON CLOSER INSPECTION – every object worth writing about carries the hands that kept it, and the closer you look, the more it tells.

It looks genuinely beautiful.
