Sea to City Travels × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

A July study.
Sea to City Travels plans journeys from Newport Beach, California, and the name is a small autobiography. Founder Sarah Bunte's earliest travel memories run from Jackson Hole to Sea Island; after college she lived in Vietnam, and her family's own habit of leaning on a travel advisor showed her early what expert planning is worth. Among her favorite memories she names a leopard, seen with her mother in South Africa. The agency designs travel to be experienced “deeply, passionately and seamlessly”, in its own words.
The wordmark is why we picked up the stamp. SEA and CITY stand in tall capitals with a small to set between them, and beneath a hairline rule sits TRAVELS in tiny, widely spaced letters. That hierarchy is a developed piece of typography for a boutique agency, the kind a designer fights for, and we wanted to see whether leather would honor the fight.
The mark, as found
Pressed lengthwise
Forest green follows the muted sage fields of their site, and gray-sand follows its pale coastal neutrals. Black is the automatic third and carries the gold foil. The capitals took the press cleanly. The hairline rule worried us, since a line that thin can read as a scratch at tag scale; on the green it holds, and in gold on black we are still of two minds.
One horizon
The companion design draws the name as a single unbroken line. It begins as waves and ends as four small buildings, and the flat water between them does the quiet work, the way a good itinerary hides its seams. SEA TO CITY runs underneath in spaced capitals, pressed lengthwise like the wordmark.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
