Tom Wahlin × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

An August study.

For Tom Wahlin.

First, the luggage tags. A tag exists to tell one bag from all the others, and for a man who traveled the world with one, we let it say so plainly – a small solid pack over THE ONLY BAG.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather. Caramel and forest green, with a pale sea-blue third for the travel of it.

Next, the passport covers. We drew a dotted route across an otherwise empty map; it breaks clean through the border and keeps climbing – UNCHARTED, which is about where things stand. One navy, one deep wine – the two liveries passports come in.

Then, the toiletry bags. The whole method in one small stamp – a packed grid with every object in its own compartment, over A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING. We pressed it low in the corner, where it belongs.

The catchall tray is for the nightly inventory. Tally marks ring the number 83 – the count it all began with – and underneath, AND COUNTING, since the list has crept a little.

On the keychains – whatever still hangs from a minimalist's keyring has outlived every purge, so the fob says SURVIVED THE CUT, with the scissors paused open on a dotted cutting line.

And finally, the journals. We borrowed your sign-off – an open box with its flaps thrown wide, still giving things up, and KEEP UNPACKING beneath it. The next chapter has to get written down somewhere. It looks genuinely beautiful.
