Found & Kept, Volume I-D – a leather stamping study of finding and keeping

Found & Kept – Volume I-D, a small exhibition of original stamp designs.

A September study.

Some things are found once and kept for good. This collection is about the finding – and about the person you think of the moment you see the thing.

First, the luggage tags. We drew the little string-tied tag a dealer knots onto a claimed piece, and set SPOKEN FOR inside it – a suitcase can be claimed too. We pressed it in deep wine and in pale sea-blue.

The black tag carries the words in gold.

Next, the keychains. We borrowed the oval of an old hotel fob and put one word inside: KEEPER. You give it to the person who is one.

On chestnut the word presses in blind; the black fob carries it in gold.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

Then the journals. A bundle of old letters tied with twine, and WORTH KEEPING beneath – because a journal is a pile of letters you write to yourself. We stamped it in deep green and in dusty rose.

For the toiletry bags, we drew a small parcel tied with string above the words THOUGHT OF YOU – the sentence every good gift begins with. It presses blind into the corner of a honeyed russet bag over a deep espresso one.

And finally, the catchall tray in golden tan. LOST above, FOUND below, and an old skeleton key lying between them – whatever leaves your pockets at night is found here in the morning.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
