House Rules – a leather stamping study in making a room your own

A September study – Volume I-C.
House Rules – a small collection about how a room becomes someone's own. Every good room obeys a few private laws, and we pressed three of them into leather. In each stamp exactly one shape is pressed solid – the decision – and everything around it stays in line.
First, the law itself. We drew a sitting room in fine outline and filled exactly one armchair with solid black. ONE BOLD THING. The rest of the room can stay quiet, because that chair is doing the talking.
We pressed it across the golden tan catchall tray, where a day's loose things land, and lengthwise along a deep green luggage tag.
Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.
On the toiletry bags – caramel over dark espresso – the little room sits in the lower corner, like a plan slipped into a coat pocket.
Next, the moment every room turns on. We fanned a hand of fabric swatches and pulled one free, pressed solid. THIS ONE. Anyone who has ever chosen an upholstery knows exactly how good those two words feel.
The decision rides along on keychains in pale sea-blue and golden tan.
They look genuinely beautiful.
And it stands upright on a dusty rose luggage tag.
And finally, the honest one. A little floor plan: the sofa in dashed line where it stood this morning, and in solid black where it actually works. PLANS CHANGE. A journal is where they get to.
We put it in the lower corner of the journals – one caramel, one deep green – and on a pale warm greige luggage tag.
