In a Good Hand – a leather collection for people who write by hand

From the Practice Log – Shops Volume I-C.

A September study.

In a Good Hand – a small leather collection for people who write by hand. Everything in it comes off the writing desk itself: the stamped envelope and the untouched first page, the good pen kept for best.

First, we took the four words every postcard has ever carried and set WISH YOU WERE HERE inside a perforated postage frame, cancellation lines across the corner – this stamp has already been somewhere.

The black tag carries it in gold; blueberry and poppy red take a blind deboss.

Next, the sign-off that keeps letters coming. We hung WRITE BACK SOON beneath a sealed envelope on the keychain fob – the thing you carry out the door, asking you back to the desk.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather – here on pale sea-blue and on golden arizona.

Then, for the travel bag, a little sign freshly hung on its cord: GONE WRITING. Some mornings the letter comes before everything else, even the packing. We stamped it low in the corner of a honeyed russet and dark espresso stack.

After that, the catchall tray, which lives where the pens end up. We pressed USE THE GOOD PEN into the base and laid an uncapped fountain pen beneath the words, so the tray talks back whenever the good pen gets saved for a better occasion.

And finally, the journals – a page with its corner turned down and PAGE ONE across the middle, a small folio 1 at the foot. Every book worth keeping started exactly there.

It looks genuinely beautiful – in navy and in dusty rose.
