Out & Back – a leather stamping collection for days outdoors

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

Volume I-B.

Out & Back is a small leather collection for people whose good days run in a loop – out the door before sunrise, back after dark with a story worth keeping.

First, the mark the whole collection hangs on. We carved a little trail signpost with two boards on one post – OUT pointing one way, BACK pointing the other. Keys make that round trip every day of the year, so the sign lives on the keychains, and it rides the toiletry bags for the longer loops.

Next, the luggage tags. A tag exists for the day a bag goes wandering, so we wrote down the honest instructions – IF LOST, TRY THE TRAILHEAD – and set a boot print between the lines.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

Then, the catchall tray. Pockets empty here at the end of a day outside, so we ringed the mark with the day's small hardware and set ALL ACCOUNTED FOR at the center. The tray takes the count every evening.

And finally, the one we liked the most. A small campfire, sparks climbing until they turn into stars, and TELL IT AGAIN underneath – because the second telling by the fire is the whole point of going, and a journal is where the story waits its turn. We pressed it into deep dark espresso and deep forest green.
