REEDY & MAIN – a Greenville leather stamping study, Volume II

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

An August study. Volume II.

Greenville keeps its river and its main street a block apart – the Reedy pouring over its falls under the Liberty Bridge, Main Street running warm and walkable just uphill. We pressed that geography into leather and called the collection REEDY & MAIN.

First, we hung the Liberty Bridge over its falls and set MEET ME AT THE FALLS across the top – a luggage tag exists to name the place you fly back to. The trio runs deep green and warm tan, with a black third.

The black tag takes the words in gold.

Next, one of the nine bronze mice that hide along Main Street sits up under NINE ON MAIN. Families hunt all nine on foot; the keychain is the mouse you get to keep, and the easiest gift in the case. Warm mid-gray for the sidewalk, warm tan for the shelf.

Then we dressed a millstone into the golden tan tray, furrowed like the working stone, with THE DAY'S GRIST and GREENVILLE ringing the rim. The Reedy's first job in town was turning a gristmill; this stone now catches whatever the day grinds out of your pockets.

It looks absolutely gorgeous pressed into the golden tan.

Greenville's most famous kitchen venture began with sandwiches at a downtown hotel and grew into a mayonnaise empire bottled beside the Reedy, so the journals say IT STARTED WITH A SANDWICH. A journal is where the next venture gets its first line. The pair comes in deep wine and pale greige.

And finally, a waterwheel turns under POWERED BY THE REEDY on the toiletry bags – the river ran the mills long before it ran anyone's morning. Warm tan over deep brown, bread over coffee.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
