Reedy & Main × Leatherius Woodman – a Greenville leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies. Volume I-C.
An August study.
Greenville keeps a river in the middle of town and a market in the middle of the street. We designed a small leather collection for the people who live with both, and named it Reedy & Main.
First, the falls. We drew the ledge and the water coming over it, set THE REEDY above and GREENVILLE below, and stood the whole thing upright on a luggage tag – so the river goes wherever the bag goes.
It travels in deep forest green and warm caramel, with a wine-dark third.
Next, we split MEET ME ON MAIN around a single street lamp from the row that lights downtown. A keychain seemed like the right place to keep a rendezvous.
The black fob carries the gold, so the lantern reads lit.
Then we borrowed the wheel from the gristmills that started this town in the 1830s and wrote STILL TURNING over it. We pressed it into the corner of a toiletry bag, honeyed russet over deep espresso – a thing that goes to work every morning, which felt right.
For the journals, a peach on the branch with IN SEASON beneath – a place for market lists and for menus that change with the month.
We pressed it small into the corner, in deep green and pale greige. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.
And finally, the one we liked the most. A dinner plate, with A PLACE AT THE TABLE turned around its rim and GREENVILLE answering along the bottom. A fork waits on one side, a knife on the other. On a golden tan catchall tray it holds whatever the day empties out, and says what a good table does.
It looks genuinely beautiful.
