Safekeeping – a leather collection about keeping things well
Safekeeping – Volume I-B.
A September study.
Safekeeping is a small collection of original stamps about the quiet work of keeping – writing the story down while someone still remembers it, and putting things back where they belong. Four designs, pressed into leather that ages the way kept things should.
First, we drew the archivist's smallest verdict – a little parcel tag, string and all, that says WORTH KEEPING. On a key fob it travels with whatever you refuse to lose.
Looks great when stamped onto the leather.
Next, a stamp for the journals. One ruled line with a pen nib just touching down, and beneath it the whole reason to start writing: SOMEONE WILL ASK.
It looks genuinely beautiful.
Then the catchall tray. We set the words IT GOES RIGHT HERE in a ring around an empty circle, so the stamp itself marks the landing spot where the keys and the watch come to rest each evening.
And finally, for the pieces that leave the house – a small darned patch, woven line over line, above the words BETTER FOR THE WEAR. Good leather keeps the record of its use, and the mend says that record is worth keeping too.
