Small Attentions – a leather stamping study in gifts of tending and homecoming, Volume I-D

A September study – Volume I-D.

Small Attentions is a small exhibition of leather gifts for the quiet habits people are loved for. Five stamped designs, each meant for one kind of person, pressed on everyday leather goods from luggage tags to journals.

First, THE LONG WAY HOME, a luggage tag for the one who wanders every path before heading back. We drew the way home as a dotted line that loops clear around a little tree before it finds the garden gate.

It looks genuinely beautiful. The black tag carries the words in gold.

Next, a keychain for whoever waits up. We hung a lit porch lantern above the words THE PORCH LIGHT IS ON – a promise worth hanging keys from.

On the black fob the lamplight is pressed in real gold; on golden tan it glows blind.

Then, for the gardener who carries clippers everywhere, we set a small pair of secateurs above the words JUST IN CASE, pressed in the lower corner of the toiletry bags – one in navy, one in deep brown.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

After that, the catchall tray in golden tan. WHAT THE DAY BROUGHT IN sits at the center, ringed by the honest inventory of a pocket – a key, an acorn and so on – so the evening's handful lands inside its own portrait.

And finally, the journals, for the one who keeps the record. We grew a single flower straight out of a ruled writing line and set WHAT BLOOMED AND WHEN beneath it – dusty rose for the gift shelf, deep green for the garden log.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.
