Special Delivery – a leather collection in the language of the mail

Volume II – a September study.

Special Delivery – a small leather collection written in the language of the mail. Every piece here is addressed to somebody, and each object carries the postal mark that fits its job.

First, we made the luggage tag the back of a postcard, with WISH YOU WERE HERE standing where the message goes. The address lines stay empty on purpose – they fill in wherever the bag lands. It runs lengthwise, in pale sea-blue and in warm red.

The black tag carries the message in gold.

Next, we gave the keychains their postage – one first-class stamp with a small heart where the denomination goes, cancellation waves and all. Cancelled means it arrived.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather, on the golden envelope tan.

On the black fob, first class goes gold.

Then the toiletry bags took a parcel stamp, pressed a few degrees askew the way a real one lands – HANDLE WITH CARE, under the little goblet that marks breakable contents. It means the bottles, and it means the traveler. The stack comes in warm tan over chestnut, the colors of wrapping paper and string.

Then the catchall tray became a postmark – RETURN TO SENDER around the rim, EVERY EVENING answering from below. A key rides the cancellation waves home; whatever the day borrowed comes back to this circle.

It looks genuinely beautiful on the golden tan.

And finally, the one we liked the most. A sealed envelope, and on its postmark the date reads SOMEDAY – because a journal is a letter to a later reader, and the later reader is usually you.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather – in deep wine, like sealing wax, and in navy.
