Sweet Talk – a leather gift collection of candy-counter sayings (Shops Waterfall, Volume I-D)

A September study.

Sweet Talk is a small collection of sayings from the candy counter, pressed into leather goods that stay useful long after the bag of sweets is gone. Every phrase is meant to call one exact person to mind within a couple of seconds – the impatient one in the back seat, the reigning sweet tooth of the house.

First, the luggage tags. We took the oldest question in the back seat – ARE WE THERE YET – and ran it lengthwise over a long winding road that ends where every good road should: at a lollipop.

On the poppy red and the pale sea-blue the press is blind. The black tag carries the words in gold.

Next, the keychains. We drew one candy in its twisted paper wrapper and set THE LAST PIECE beneath it – everybody knows exactly who they would save it for, and this little fob says it out loud.

Then the toiletry bags, where the toothbrush lives. We drew a molar wearing a crown – a dental crown, naturally – over the words SWEET TOOTH, for whoever holds the title in the family.

The stamp sits quietly in the lower corner, navy on one bag and chestnut on the other.

Then the catchall tray. We pressed EMPTY YOUR POCKETS into the base – the order every pocket obeys at the end of the day – and ringed the words with what pockets used to surrender: a marble, a wrapped candy and so on.

It looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the golden tan.

And finally, the one we liked the most. PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS on the journal cover, the coin placed above the words – payment up front, thoughts to follow.

On the honeyed russet the coin reads almost copper. The navy journal keeps it quiet.
