Sweet Time – a Middletown, Rhode Island leather collection
From the Practice Log, Volume I-C – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.
A September study.
Sweet Time is a small leather collection for Middletown, Rhode Island – four designs drawn from its fields and lanes, stamped into leather.
First, we drew one strawberry and hung the season's honest schedule around it – IN ITS OWN SWEET TIME. The picking year here opens with strawberries in June, and they ripen exactly when they please.
Looks great when stamped onto the leather – keychains in poppy red and forest green.
Next, we drew a dry-laid fieldstone wall that stands beside a Middletown field lane, stone for stone from our photograph, down to the round hole in its upright end boulder. STONE BY STONE above, MIDDLETOWN below.
It looks genuinely beautiful. The wall runs lengthwise along the luggage tags – gray sand carries it like the fieldstone itself, while caramel and forest green take the lane and the field.
The same wall crosses the base of the arizona catchall tray, big enough to read every joint.
Then, for the journals, we filled a wide-mouth jar with cut flowers and wrote the standing instruction straight across the glass – PICK MORE FLOWERS.
Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather – journals in blush and forest green.
And finally, the one we liked the most. Fields around here rest under cover crops before they bear again, so we pressed that into a badge – REST IS PART OF THE ROTATION.
It sits quietly in the corner of the toiletry stack, country gray over sicilian brown.
