The Long Way – a leather collection of detours and roads home
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.
A September study – Volume I-B.
The Long Way is a small collection about the oldest road-trip truth: the best part was the detour. Five stamps for travelers who pull over for the good stuff and carry a little of it home.
First, we drew the trip as it actually happens – a straight highway, and a second road that swings wide around a star before rejoining it, over the words THE BEST PART WAS THE DETOUR.

It runs lengthwise along the luggage tags. The black tag carries the phrase in gold.

Warm red and caramel take it as a blind press. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Next, the keychain earns its words – keys are how every trip ends. TAKE THE LONG WAY arcs over a road that wanders through two switchbacks before it finds the door, and HOME waits underneath.

It looks genuinely beautiful in deep green and pale sea-blue.

Then we gave the toiletry kit its marching orders – PACK LIGHT above, STOP OFTEN below, a small star holding the middle. The stack renders in honeyed russet over deep espresso brown.

After that, the catchall tray – where pockets get emptied at the end of the day. We put a panning screen at the center with a few gems still on the mesh, and KEEP WHAT YOU FIND around the rim.

On the golden tan tray it reads like a coin from an assay office.

And finally, a journal for the stories a trip leaves behind. A printer's hand points at MOSTLY TRUE – because every good road story grows a little in the telling.

Stamped in the corner of deep wine and pale greige covers. Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
