The Second Look – a leather collection for people who love stones

Volume I-B – an original leather collection.

A September study.

Somewhere in every drawer of specimens there is one stone that looks back. We designed this collection around the moment of choosing it – and called it The Second Look, because each design here rewards one.

First, we drew a whole field of stones in plain outline and let a single faceted gem stand solid among them, beneath the arc OF ALL THE STONES IN THE WORLD. It is the collector's moment of finding the one, and it is also a sentence you can hand to someone you love.

Pressed into the corner of a journal – one in deep wine, one in dusty lavender – it looks genuinely beautiful.

The same stamp rides the lower corner of the toiletry bags, a warm stone gray over deep espresso brown.

Next, we set a single tourmaline crystal upright on the luggage tags, striated down its whole length and stepped at the crown the way the real ones grow, above the words A MILLION YEARS IN THE MAKING.

We pressed it blind on a deep wine tag and on a deep green one. The black tag carries the design in gold foil.

Then, we drew a gem face-up, the way a cutter judges it – an eight-sided table with facets radiating out to the girdle – and wrote LOOK CLOSER beneath. It reads as a badge across the room and as geometry in the hand.

One fob is pale sea-blue. On the black fob the press is gold foil, and keychains with this stamp look just awesome.

And finally, we scattered a pocketful of just-tipped-out finds around the words EMPTY YOUR POCKETS, for the catchall tray where the day's haul lands, rings included.

Looks great when stamped onto the golden tan leather.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
