The Slow Hours – a leather collection for the day off the screen (Volume I-B)

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies. Volume I-B.

A September study.

The Slow Hours is a small collection for the parts of a day that happen off the screen. It begins at the morning sink and ends with pockets emptied into a tray at night; five stamps mark the hours between.

First, the morning. We drew a half-risen sun over a single horizon line and set BEGIN AGAIN beneath it – every day at the sink starts the same generous way. It sits small in the corner of the toiletry bags, honeyed russet over deep espresso.

Next, the going. We set OUT OF OFFICE in strong capitals and let a paper plane climb away above the words – the auto-reply, finally true. It runs lengthwise along the luggage tags in caramel and pale sea-blue.

Black carries the gold.

Then, the coming home. We took a pocket compass and put the word HOME where north used to be – the needle has never pointed anywhere else. On keychain fobs in forest green and poppy red.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

For the writing down, we stacked WRITE IT DOWN over IT LASTS LONGER and gave a pencil the job of ruling its own line beneath the promise – the analog save button, pressed into the corner of the journals in deep wine and pale greige.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

And finally, the landing. A key and a coin fall toward a shallow bowl, with THE DAY LANDS HERE beneath – which is exactly what a catchall tray is for. Centered at a generous size on the golden tan tray.
