The Valley Between × Leatherius Woodman – a Stowe leather collection, Volume I-D

The Valley Between, Volume I-D – a Stowe leather collection.

An August study.

Stowe sits in a valley between the Hogback range and Mount Mansfield, and we spent this study pressing that valley into leather. Five stamps, five things a hand can carry out of town.

First, the smallest true story in town. When Stowe built its Recreation Path, the money was raised by selling the path itself – an inch for two dollars – so we ruled a single inch onto a keychain.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Next, a catchall tray for the moment every Vermont day closes on. We set IN FROM THE WEATHER inside a ring of twelve snowflakes – the snow keeps to the rim, and the keys land in the middle.

Then the toiletry bag got the oldest ski story on the mountain. A single-seat chair first carried skiers up Mount Mansfield in 1940, so we hung one from its cable beside the words UP THE MOUNTAIN SINCE 1940 – here on a warm-gray bag over dark espresso.

After that, a journal for the plan everyone drafts on the drive home. A dotted trail switchbacks up the cover to a small star, with THE WAY BACK beneath it – once in deep pine green, once in honeyed russet, the color these hills turn in October.

And finally, the one we liked the most. Seen from the east, Mount Mansfield wears a face, and anyone who has looked up from the valley can name its parts – so we drew the whole ridgeline and labeled it, FOREHEAD to ADAMS APPLE, with the mountain's name beneath. It runs the long way down the luggage tag, on three leathers from warm luggage tan to deep night navy.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
