Water & Warp – a Greenville, South Carolina leather collection

An August study.

Water & Warp is a small leather collection for Greenville, South Carolina – a city raised twice, once by the river and once by the loom. Five designs, five dies, pressed onto everything from journals to luggage tags.

First, the falls. We stacked the Reedy's ledges and let the water run over them in plain lines, with WATER OVER STONE beneath – the river has been writing Greenville one line at a time, which is also how a journal works.

Pressed into the corner of the journals – one deep green, one pale greige, the canopy and the page.

Next, we bent Liberty Bridge into a single sweep over the water and hung MEET ME AT THE FALLS beneath it – the sentence every set of keys in this town ends up obeying.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

Then the loom. We set a weaver's shuttle down mid-flight, its thread trailing off in a long river wave, and wrote OUT AND BACK beneath it – the shuttle's whole biography, and a toiletry bag's too. Trail runners will recognize the route.

After that, the rabbit. Local humor named the old rail line through the bottomlands the Swamp Rabbit, and the trail laid on its bed still answers to the name – so we put the hare at full stretch above the rails, with GREENVILLE running underneath. On a luggage tag it reads as a promise about the pace of the trip.

And finally, the tray, which names the whole collection's logic. Every drop that lands on this county finds the Reedy eventually, and everything in a pocket finds the tray by the door – so we ringed a raindrop's rings with EVERYTHING FINDS THE RIVER.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this collection is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
