Well Played – a leather collection about games and good sport

A September study – Volume II.

Well Played is a small collection about games and the people who love winning them just slightly less than playing them. Five original stamps, each one an idiom from play, finished by the leather object underneath it.

First, the luggage tags. Every trip is an away game, so we lettered AWAY GAME down a felt pennant, the kind that gets pinned over a bed after a good season. It runs lengthwise along the tag in warm red and in navy.

The black tag carries the pennant in gold.

Next, we rigged a coin toss. The coin above HEADS WE GO has already landed, and it only ever lands one way – hang it on the car keys and the decision to go was made long ago.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather – warm tan for one pocket, deep green for the other.

Then the journals. Solving it in ink is the oldest quiet brag there is, so the cover says IN PEN, underlined in one stroke by the nib that just finished it.

It looks genuinely beautiful – in navy and in deep wine.

After that, the golden tan tray by the door. We set home plate at the end of its dashed base path and arched HOME GAME above it – the keys land here, and the run counts.

And finally, the toiletry bags, navy stacked over chestnut. A round shaving mirror waits above GAME FACE in the corner of each bag, because the game face goes on at the sink before it goes anywhere else.
