Wool & Water × Leatherius Woodman – a Guild, New Hampshire leather collection
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.
An August study.
Wool & Water is a five-design leather collection rooted in Guild, New Hampshire.
First, the bridge. The Corbin Covered Bridge crosses its river on a Town lattice – crossing strips with open diamonds between them, and anyone who works in wool will see the weave before the timber. It burned in 1993; the town rebuilt it, lattice and all, within a year. So the luggage tags carry the bridge over its water, with BUILT TWICE beneath.
The black tag carries the bridge in gold.

Next, ROW BY ROW for the journals – the pace a rug is hooked at and the pace a page fills at. Stitch rows run between the words, so the cover arrives already ruled. We pressed it low in the corner, where a maker's mark belongs, on deep forest green and on pale warm greige.
Then, the sun for the toiletry bags. Newport, the town that holds Guild, calls itself the Sunshine Town – and a wash bag is where every morning starts. The stamp sits small in the lower corner, pressed blind into golden amber over chestnut.
After that, COUNT YOUR SHEEP for the keychains – keys being the smallest flock anyone keeps. Counting sheep is night work, so the black fob carries its sheep in gold. Its sibling wears pale warm greige, the color of the fleece itself.
And finally, the one we liked the most. Everything the valley carries, the Sugar River gathers on its way through Guild – and a catchall tray does the same for a day's pockets. So the tray floor carries the river's own bends in golden tan, with a dot on the bank marking Guild, the place where they get emptied.
