The Bohemian Highway Collection – an Occidental leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

Volume I-B. A September study.

Occidental sits where the redwoods meet the orchards, halfway down the Bohemian Highway. We stamped the country around the town into leather and called it the Bohemian Highway Collection.

First, we took the road itself – ten miles under the redwoods – and drew it winding between two big trunks, with BOHEMIAN HIGHWAY riding beneath. It runs lengthwise along the luggage tags.

It looks genuinely beautiful stamped into the deep forest green.

The black tag carries the gold.

Next, WEST COUNTY – the name the county actually goes by – arched over a small stand of redwoods and sized for a keychain fob.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Then we gave the orchards their apple and let a redwood sprig stand in for the leaf – OCCIDENTAL above, CALIFORNIA below. It fills the base of the catchall tray and sits small in the corner of the journals, one in deep wine and one in pale greige.

And finally, TO THE COAST – the road going over the last golden hill before the water – pressed into the corner of the navy toiletry bag.
