Broom & Board – a Broomfield leather stamping study, Volume II

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies of original designs.

A September study. Volume II.

Broom & Board – a small collection stamped into full-grain leather for Broomfield, Colorado, where the evenings belong to the board.

First, the clean sweep. Broomfield is named for the broom corn it once grew, and winning every round of the night goes by the same name – so we set a broom mid-stroke sweeping the dice away, with CLEAN SWEEP standing ahead of the bristles.

It runs lengthwise along the luggage tags, in golden tan and in navy. Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.

The black tag carries the sweep in gold.

Next, session zero – the meeting held before a campaign begins, when the world is still a blank map. We framed an empty cartouche around a lone compass rose and pressed it into the corner of the journals; the pages do the filling in.

Then, a ruling for the tray. Whatever the day sends home in your pockets counts as treasure, so we opened a chest at the center of the golden tan base and arched LOOT GOES HERE above it – one key already leaning in the coin heap.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

For the toiletry stack – honeyed russet over chestnut – we raised a pennant flying a twenty and wrote AWAY GAME beneath it. Both bags carry the stamp in the corner, for the weekends when the table sits in another town.

And finally, the one we liked the most. The keys are already out, and the whole table is saying the same thing – so we circled a tipping die with an arrow and pressed ONE MORE TURN into the fobs.
