By the Falls, Volume I-B – a Longfellow, Minneapolis leather collection
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.
A September study – Volume I-B.
By the Falls is a small leather collection rooted in Longfellow, Minneapolis – the corner of the city that calls itself the Neighborhood By the Falls. Every piece carries one of the collection's own stamped designs, from luggage tags down to a catchall tray.
First, the collection's namesake. We drew the waterfall the way the neighborhood carries it in its name: the ledge and the drop, then the rings where the water lands, with BY THE FALLS arcing over the top.
Looks great when stamped onto the leather – one keychain in deep green, one in golden tan.
The same badge sits at a generous size in the golden tan catchall tray – the bowl by the door where everything you carry lands at the end of the day.
And on the toiletry stack it rides the lower corner, navy over chestnut – water over stone.
Next, one for the Greenway. We let the bicycle's front wheel unspool into the road itself, and the road takes two lazy bends before it reaches the little house – THE LONG WAY HOME.
It runs lengthwise along the luggage tags – pale sea-blue and navy for the water side of the neighborhood, warm tan for the classic luggage leather. Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped.
And finally, the journals. Four thin creeks wander down the cover and join the broad bands of the river – EVERY CREEK FINDS THE RIVER, which is roughly what a journal does with stray thoughts.
One in navy, one in pale greige.
