Three luggage-tag studies for Advanced Purchasing Dynamics

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world organizations.

An August study.

A fastener tightened, a table shared, and a road to the plant

Advanced Purchasing Dynamics says it helps manufacturers make purchasing a competitive advantage through consulting, training, and software. Its public work spans cost engineering, strategic sourcing, procurement analytics, purchasing skills, negotiation, supplier relationships, nearshoring, and trade-policy education. The current leadership page names Jeoffrey Burris as Founder and Principal; he established APD in 2004 after a long purchasing and manufacturing career.

The live site uses bright cyan-blue and orange, rounded resource cards, and a repeated set of practical topic icons inside white circles with orange rims. These independent studies do not reproduce a wordmark, initials, the exact icon set, client marks, savings figures, flags, or political imagery. A ring-shaped tool station becomes the head of a wrench tightening a fastener, its circular counterform becomes a two-seat meeting table, and the public language of cost curves and manufacturing work becomes a literal road into a plant.

As leather luggage tags, the ideas could be considered for approved consulting teams, workshops, training cohorts, supplier events, conferences, project completions, or selected partner appreciation. They suit people who move between offices, plants, suppliers, and industry meetings. Each design is operational before it is metaphorical: a joint secured correctly, two parties prepared at one table, and a route that ends where the work is made.

Leather and treatment

Bright cyan-blue, warm orange, and dark charcoal leather preserve APD’s practical high-contrast energy. Tonal embossing feels like a durable tool marking; restrained antique-brass on charcoal gives one more formal version while keeping the exact same manufacturing image.

The three concepts

1. Ring Wrench, Tightened

A ring wrench tightens one hexagonal nut joining two plain parts. The tool is immediately legible, while its circular head and open center transform the repeated rimmed tool stations in APD’s public visual system into practical purchasing craft.

2. Round Table, Two Seats

A round table is seen from above with two equal seats and one small notebook at each place. The untouched center becomes the working space between buyer and supplier, translating the site’s circular counterform into preparation and listening rather than pressure.

3. Road to the Plant

A curving road descends toward a simple factory silhouette. The everyday destination joins APD’s manufacturing focus to the idea of a cost curve, but it remains first and foremost the route consultants, buyers, and suppliers travel to the place where decisions become production.

These are independent design studies for appropriate team, partner, collaborator, adviser, vendor, volunteer, or client occasions. No affiliation, approval, or endorsement is implied. Every image is a render used to test the object before cutting a physical die.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual.
