Ashley Bell × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Ashley Bell.

First, we read the seventeen company swag ideas employees really want, and added one. The eighteenth idea is a luggage tag that knows its own number – an 18 struck like a medal, THE EIGHTEENTH IDEA arced above it.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Next, the word her every headline chases, set the way posters used to set it. WANTED in wood type, REWARD OFFERED underneath – in her line of work the reward runs both ways. We pressed it into the corner of the toiletry bags.

Then her sternest test, stamped on the one object that passes it daily. ACTUALLY USEFUL, with an old skeleton key drawn in as the underline.

The keychains look awesome in golden tan and deep brown.

Every gift review ends in a quiet sorting. We took the winners' side – THE KEEP PILE, arced over a small heap of pocket-worn keepers, pressed into the catchall tray where the keep pile actually lives.

Personalized journals hold a spot on her list of seventeen. So we ticked the box, and stamped the checked-off line item straight onto the cover.

And finally, because she has covered logo swag longer than most companies have owned a logo, one demonstration with a real mark – the SnackNation wordmark run lengthwise along a family of tags in their own pale sea-blue and pale warm greige. The black tag carries the gold.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
