AspireMN September Leadership Retreat 2026 × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
AspireMN September Leadership Retreat 2026 reached us the way these things do, as word that a room is gathering: AspireMN's member leaders leaving their desks for Madden's on Gull Lake, September 9–11, under the invitation's plain promise to “connect, learn, and relax.” The shape of the reservation tells you what the organizer values. It carries everyone from Wednesday dinner clear through Friday breakfast, the whole of Thursday fed in between, so the table stays as shared as the agenda. Thursday's Leadership Academy workshop asks what is happening with AI and why it matters, worked through the “What? So What? Now What?” framework, which is an honest order for questions.
The wordmark is why the study exists. Aspire runs thin and gray before a magenta MN, and five slim bars of color trail after like flags on a line. Letterforms that lean on color are a fair test of a stamp, which has only depth and shadow to spend, and we wanted to see whether the bars would keep their rhythm once the palette moved from ink into leather. The event's own graphic, a yellow calendar square with colored pencils climbing its lower corner, tempted us for a while; the pencils are photographic, though, and a die wants clean line, so we let them stay on the poster. The tag holds the wordmark and the line SEPTEMBER LEADERSHIP RETREAT 2026.
The mark, as found

Pressed lengthwise
Vivid fuchsia for the magenta of the MN and a pale sea-blue for the cooler bars that follow it, both pulled straight from the wordmark's own palette. Black carries the gold.

A loon for Gull Lake
Madden's has kept its thousand-acre peninsula in the family for three generations, a resort since 1929, and the official page promises the morning call of the loon along better than two miles of shoreline. So the companion is a loon on still water, mid-call, circled by CONNECT LEARN AND RELAX and GULL LAKE MINNESOTA 2026. Forty-nine days out, that call is the one part of the retreat already certain.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
