Channel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Channel.

For the warm-up, we put the Channel logo on the luggage tags – golden tan for the yellow of the mark, warm gray for the wordmark. The black tag takes the logo in gold foil.

Next, Channel's own words. The team says it creates its own currents, so we drew exactly that: five streamlines flowing together, and one that breaks away to cut its own path – CREATE YOUR OWN CURRENTS.

In gold on the black fob, with a golden tan sibling beside it, it looks genuinely beautiful.

The same current rides in the corner of the toiletry bags, golden tan over deep espresso.

Then the tagline. Channel's name is a waterway, so we drew it as a lake chart: two open waters joined by a narrow passage, and a small boat making the crossing – YOUR PARTNER IN FUNDING. The partner is the passage.

Pressed at a generous size on the journals – one black, one warm gray – it reads like a page torn from that chart.

And finally, the catchall tray, where the passage gets the whole of the golden tan base.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
