Colleen Banks × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies in leather.

An August study.

For Colleen Banks.

First, we took the oldest promise in the wedding vocabulary and reassigned it to baggage claim – TO HAVE & TO HOLD, set in a vintage luggage-label frame, for the one bag that gets held onto. The trio runs from pale rose to vivid magenta. The black tag carries the vow in gold.

Next, Shelby. A cat who already runs her own Instagram deserves her own die, so we drew her sitting for the camera, a gem-flash caught at her ear and her name set beneath. One fob is pale rose; the black fob takes her in gold.

Then, the design that explains why leather is the medium here at all. Your third-anniversary guide calls leather the material that ages gracefully with a marriage, so we interlocked three wedding bands and set YEAR THREE beneath them – pressed into a caramel and dark espresso kit, the classic luggage leathers that will prove the point by aging exactly that way.

A catchall tray is the one place where adding to cart is a physical act. We drew the cart with a solitaire riding in the basket, the stone clear of the rim, and wrote the button beneath – pressed into the tray's golden tan.

And finally, the one we liked the most. STET is the proofreader's mark for let it stand – the smallest verdict an editor can hand down, and the kindest. A sentence worth keeping earns it; so does a marriage that reaches the leather year. It sits in the corner of the journals, one in deep wine like an editor's pencil, one in pale greige like the page.

It looks genuinely beautiful.
