General Motors × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For General Motors.

For the warm-up, we put the GM symbol on the luggage tags – the blue square pressed on navy and on a pair of quiet grays, one pale greige and one warm.

Next, a stamp for TRACK, GM's rotational engineering program, where the viewpoints keep changing until they add up to one path. We drew a wheel printing its own tread onto the road ahead – EVERY ROTATION COVERS GROUND. It sits in the corner of the toiletry bags, navy over deep brown: the bag that goes along on every rotation.

Then the keychains. GM's line is "The one for every drive," and the thing that starts every drive lives on a keychain – so we cut an ignition caught mid-turn, the key just reaching START.

The black fob carries it in gold, like a dash lit at night; the navy one takes a blind press.

The catchall tray is where the keys land when the drive is over. GM's vision is a world with "zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion," so the golden tan base reads like an instrument panel at journey's end: an odometer rolled all the way back – DESTINATION ZERO.

And finally, the journals. Every vehicle that ever left Detroit was drawn before it was driven – so the cover carries a pencil pulling a road out of the page, DRAWN BEFORE DRIVEN. One in pale greige like drafting paper, one in navy.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.
