Harvey James × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Harvey James.

First, we took the guide's title at its word: a row of heads already turned, and at the end of the row the one suitcase they all turned for. The tag says TURNS HEADS IN THE TERMINAL and then goes ahead and does it – here on warm red and on pale greige. The black tag carries it in gold foil.

Next, we gave a suitcase the street-style treatment – SPOTTED AT CAROUSEL 4, flashbulbs already going. Vivid magenta makes it the loudest thing on the belt. The black tag takes the gold foil.

Then we settled the guide's privacy point in four words. A keyhole punched through the suitcase, NONE OF YOUR BAGGAGE around it – navy and deep brown keep it properly discreet.

After that, one for the green channel. The case is open and the pages are escaping – NOTHING TO DECLARE BUT SHORT STORIES. It rides on deep wine and warm tan.

We sent one to the fells, too: contour lines with a dotted path climbing to the trig point, and the summit named PEAK SUAVE. Deep green and warm mid-gray for the hill, honeyed russet for the bracken.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

And finally, the one we liked the most. The guide calls a luggage tag an ID card, and a writer already owns the best ID there is – the byline. WORDS BY HARVEY JAMES, set like a credit line between two rules, with a pilcrow beneath. Pressed on warm tan and on deep green. The black tag carries it in gold.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
