Ian Taylor / FashionBeans × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.
An August study.
For Ian Taylor of FashionBeans.
First, the arithmetic. The FashionBeans leather-gift roundup runs to 29 entries, so we made a thirtieth – off the list, under laurels, reserved for the editor who keeps the list.

The tags wear editorial black and warm newsprint gray; the third takes the red of an editor's pencil. The black one carries the gold.

Next, the two men from your sandals piece became a pair of keychains. The Riviera playboy gets his sunglasses on pale sea-blue; the metropolitan commuter gets a furled umbrella, black on black, because he would keep it quiet.

The pair looks great side by side.

Then your verdict on factory-distressed sneakers – wear has to be earned – became the stamp for the Dopp kits: a properly creased sneaker over EARNS ITS WEAR. We pressed it into a stack of honeyed russet over deep espresso, pull-up leather that scuffs and darkens the same honest way.

After that, the phrase you gave the FashionBeans reader – "time-poor, choice-rich" – found its object. A catchall tray is where the time-poor man empties his choice-rich pockets each night, so we set the words around an hourglass and gave the golden-tan tray the most generous press of the study.

And finally, the one we liked the most. STET is the oldest verdict in editing – let it stand. On the cover of a journal it promises the first draft gets to exist, dots and all. We pressed it into ink black and newsprint gray.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
