Mass General Brigham × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Mass General Brigham.

For the warm-up, we redrew the Mass General Brigham logo and put it on the luggage tags – deep navy for the wordmark's blue, pale sea-blue for the emblem's teal. A black tag rides along and carries the logo in gold.

Next, the promise the whole system runs on. The quality strategy is called "For Every Patient," so we drew one continuous ECG trace and bent it into a full circle – the line beats once at the top and then closes on itself, so nobody stands outside it.

On the keychains it runs in the house colors, deep navy and pale sea-blue. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

On the toiletry bags the ring sits small in the corner, navy over deep espresso brown.

Then the journals, in deep navy and pale greige. Mass General Brigham says its people work at the forefront of "what comes next in medicine" – and whatever comes next gets written down before it gets done. Under the phrase we left the first lines of the page empty.

And finally, the one we liked the most. In 1994, two historic Boston hospitals came together as one system. We drew the two circles and filled in only the part they share.

It sits at the center of the golden tan catchall tray – the place where everything ends up together at the end of the day.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
