Three luggage-tag studies for McKesson

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world organizations.

An August study.

Stock supported, a beam directed, and a dependable crossing

McKesson describes a logistical and operational backbone of U.S. healthcare, supporting providers, pharmacies, manufacturers, and health systems through distribution, technology, oncology and multispecialty services, prescription technology, and medical-surgical solutions. Its current public figures include approximately 43,000 employees, more than 344 U.S. distribution facilities, and roughly 40,000 deliveries each day.

The public identity uses bold dark-blue geometry with one short orange underbar, brighter blue curves, broad white fields, rectangular cards, and repeated distribution modules. These independent studies do not reproduce the name, letters, medical symbols, medicines, vehicles, or healthcare claims. The short underbar becomes the sole bracket beneath a stocked shelf; an open angular counterform becomes the white beam of a flashlight; and the large blue arcs and repeated bay rhythm become the deck and evenly spaced railings of a footbridge.

As leather luggage tags, the designs could be considered only for approved adult employee, leadership, partner, customer, conference, platform, or service-milestone programs. They make no reference to patients, prescriptions, clinical work, or private data. Their meanings are ordinary and respectful: make sure supplies are supported, direct light where it is needed, and build a reliable way across.

Leather and treatment

Deep healthcare blue, clear cyan blue, and natural tan preserve the confidence and clarity of the public system. Tonal debossing keeps the objects professional; restrained antique-brass on tan offers the same artwork as a warmer service or conference keepsake.

The three concepts

1. The Stocked Shelf

Three plain closed boxes sit on one long shelf supported by a single short bracket. The picture reads as ready stock; the offset support occupies the same structural role as McKesson’s warm underbar, while compact boxes transition into one longer module above it.

2. The Flashlight

A handheld flashlight tilts upward and casts one clean, widening beam. It is a practical tool immediately; the open wedge of light converts the distinctive angular counterspace in the current mark into illumination without drawing any letter.

3. The Footbridge

A broad arched footbridge carries seven evenly spaced railing posts. The crossing is familiar and human-scaled, while its paired arcs and steady vertical cadence translate the public site’s sweeping blue overlays and repeated distribution-bay rhythm.

These are independent design studies for appropriate team, partner, collaborator, vendor, employee, conference, recognition, or client occasions. No affiliation, approval, or endorsement is implied. Every image is a render used to test the object before cutting a physical die.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual.
