Ninety One × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

An August study.

For Ninety One.

Three tall bars that spell 91 – the founding year wearing the name. We pressed the mark as found, upright on the tags: deep pine green answers the blue-green of the bars, and pale greige stands in for the clean field they live on. The black tag carries the gold.

In 2026, thirty-five years in, Ninety One went back to 36 Hans Strijdom Avenue, the address where the story began. A key spends every evening coming home, so the fob carries the front door – a Cape gable over the lintel and the two years flanking the doorstep. Deep pine green rides beside black; the black fob takes the gold.

Their own storytelling seats lions above the clouds, and a toiletry bag spends its working life up there too. The stack runs golden tan over deep espresso, savanna colors pressed blind. On the golden tan tray the same lion lands at desk scale, keeping watch over whatever the day empties out.

“Investing for a better tomorrow” is their line, and tomorrow tends to get drafted in a journal first. The baobab on the cover holds as much below the ground line as above it; the firm says its different perspective comes from its roots, and the most patient tree on the plain agrees. Deep pine green and warm tan, both pressed blind.
