OUTWARDEN × Leatherius Woodman – a brand identity study
A September study.
For OUTWARDEN.
Eight proposed identity directions – every one an option on the table, none adopted yet.
First, NIGHT ROUNDS. We drew the patrol itself – a dashed ring for the round that never lapses, with one small square underway upon it. OUTWARDEN runs straight through the middle. We pressed it into the lower corner of a navy leather journal, the log book every good watch keeps.

Next, THE LANTERN – a warden once walked the grounds with a lamp in hand, so we hung a lantern over OUTWARDEN in engraved capitals and stamped it on a black leather keychain. The black carries the gold. It looks genuinely beautiful.

Then RAMPART – the wordmark in slab capitals under a line of battlements, the oldest picture of security there is. We pressed it at generous size into the golden tan of the catchall tray.

Then THE WATCH EYE – a shield with one open eye inside and OUTWARDEN beneath, for the eye that never closes. We stamped it upright on a deep green luggage tag.

From here on, full identity boards. PERIMETER is the technical direction – a square held inside a broken ring, one dot standing in the gap where the fence opens. The warden is the gate.

THE NIGHT OWL is the warm one – a geometric owl, all rings and curves, wide awake at midnight, for the neighbor who is glad the machine is out there.

KEYWARD is the industrial one – O and W interlocked into a single badge of even weight, set in safety amber beside condensed capitals.

And finally, the quietest of the eight – NORTH FIELD. One four-pointed star over a long horizon, OUTWARDEN spaced wide beneath, for the machine that keeps its post while everyone sleeps.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
