Sunbeam Studio × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.
An August study.
For Sunbeam Studio.
First, the warm-up – we put the Sunbeam Studio sun on the luggage tags. Golden tan for the ochre of the mark, pale warm greige for the cream it usually sits on. The third tag is true black, and the black one carries the sun in gold foil.
It looks genuinely beautiful.
Next, the companion design. The studio's own words say everyone deserves to "step into their greatness and truly shine" – and in a colorist's hands, shine comes out of the foils. So we drew it that way: a row of folded foils for the horizon, sunrise breaking over the top of it, TRULY SHINE underneath.
On the toiletry bags it sits low in the corner, golden tan stacked over chestnut – the clay and wood of the salon, in leather.
Then the keychains, where the black fob takes the sunrise in gold, with pale warm greige beside it. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.
The catchall tray carries the same sunrise at a generous size – the place where the day's earrings and keys come to rest.
And finally, the one we liked the most. Sunbeam Studio began as a single chair, and every transformation since has begun in one – so the journals carry a lone styling chair with the sun coming up behind it, IT STARTS IN THE CHAIR beneath. Warm tan and deep brown, like the wood and leather inside the studio.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
