Three brand-art luggage-tag studies for Viper Energy

An August study.
A coil, a field, and the layers beneath it
Viper Energy is a publicly traded mineral-and-royalty company focused primarily on the Permian Basin. Its official materials describe a capital-light model built around mineral interests, long-lived acreage, acquisitions, and royalties from production rather than operation of the underlying wells.
The current visual system is unusually tactile. A compact emblem holds a coiled form inside a circular counterspace; the wide metallic wordmark uses blunt beveled cuts; and the May 2026 investor presentation places a smooth white boundary against a close field of deep-green scales. Maps and subsurface sections add stacked layers and acreage geometry. These studies take one ingredient at a time and move it into an ordinary object.
The resulting luggage tags could suit an employee milestone, leadership gathering, mineral-owner meeting, transaction closing, adviser or partner thank-you, or year-end recognition where company policy permits. They avoid wells, pumpjacks, oil drops, Texas badges, money, and stock charts, keeping the images useful rather than triumphal.
Leather and treatment
Black, deep forest, and warm tan leather repeat one die across each family. Tonal compression carries the darker materials; a restrained antique-gold line gives the tan version enough contrast for a more formal executive presentation.
The three concepts
1. The Rolled Plan
A cylindrical plan roll opens into a short flat sheet with two drafting lines. The end-on spiral quietly remembers the compact emblem's coil, while the literal paper connects to acreage, survey, and transaction work.
2. The Pinecone
Staggered diamond scales taper into one upright pinecone. The rhythm comes directly from the investor presentation's macro scale field, reassembled as a familiar outdoor object rather than a threatening snake.
3. The Layer Cake
A cherry-topped cake slice reveals four softly undulating layers. The internal bands borrow the logic of a subsurface section, turning geology into an unmistakable celebration object for a closing or milestone.
