House Rules – a Broomfield leather collection

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies. This volume carries original designs of our own.

Volume I-C. A September study.

Broomfield has been gathering around tables since the Grange formed in 1898, back when this was farm country between Denver and Boulder. The tables are still here. These days they hold character sheets and dice, and the people around them keep showing up the way people always have. We made a leather collection for those tables, and we called it House Rules.

First, the luggage tags. We drew a map pin with a die for a head and ringed it with GAME NIGHT IS A PLACE – a tag names a destination, and this one names the right one.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

The black tag carries the pin in gold.

The same mark went to the toiletry bag, navy over deep brown, for the nights the table is somewhere else.

Next, the leather dice tray. We ran THE DICE HAVE SPOKEN in a ring around the golden tan base and left the middle empty on purpose – your dice land there and finish the design.

It might be our favorite object in the study.

Then the journals. In the lower right corner we pressed an hourglass with the sand still falling, and YOUR TURN beneath it – a campaign journal is where the turn gets written down while everyone else is still arguing. One navy, one warm tan.

And finally, the design that named the collection. HOUSE RULES, under a key whose bow is a die face with a single pip – pressed on a keychain, where the house keys already live. Whoever holds the ring makes the rules.

The black fob takes the words in gold, the way a foil card outranks its common printing.
