Margin Notes – a Sarasota leather collection, Volume I-B

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies, this time built of original designs.

A September study. Volume I-B.

Downtown Sarasota, a few blocks in from the bay, on the avenue where the bookshelves live. We stamped a small leather collection for readers and named it Margin Notes.

First, the journals. We set FIRST DRAFT inside a plain stamp border and let the whole mark sit a few degrees off square – the way a manuscript actually gets stamped. Every notebook starts braver with the title already on the cover.

It looks genuinely beautiful pressed into the leather – deep espresso for the desk, pale sea-blue for the beach bag.

Next, we set a small bedside lamp above ONE MORE CHAPTER and left it on – a keychain for everyone who has said it out loud and meant it. Blush pink and forest green, the doorway's own flowers and foliage.

Then, the luggage tags. We drew the long bridge low over the bay and set SARASOTA in the water beneath it, for the reader whose suitcase is half books anyway.

The black tag carries the gold. Pale sea-blue and caramel take a blind press.

After that, we laid a pair of reading glasses on a closed book and wrote END OF CHAPTER underneath – a golden tan catchall tray for the exact spot where the glasses land every night.

And finally, a book opening into wings above BRING A BOOK – the one piece of packing advice that has never failed anyone, on a toiletry bag in navy over deep espresso brown.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
