The Pineapple Avenue Collection – Sarasota in leather

From the Practice Log – Volume I-C of an ongoing series of stamping studies, this one made of original designs for a real place.

A September study.

Sarasota, pressed into leather. A small collection drawn for one town, then stamped in the workshop.

First, we built a pineapple out of books – six closed spines stacked into the fruit, a crown of leaves finishing it – and set PINEAPPLE AVENUE beneath, after the downtown street with the best name in Florida. A pineapple has meant welcome since the porch-post days; this one welcomes readers.

It looks genuinely beautiful on the luggage tags.

The black tag carries the design in gold; the golden tan and the pale sea-blue take a blind press.

The same mark travels – generous on the golden tan of the catchall tray, small in the corner of the toiletry bags.

Next, we opened a book and let the last pages get away. They lift off the spread and roll into a gulf wave, with SARASOTA set beneath – the same fine lines begin as page edges and end as water. For the keychains, in deep navy and in the pale greige of the sand.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

And finally, a colophon for the journals. A printed book states where it was made; a blank journal deserves the same courtesy in advance. A printer's frame with a low sun on the horizon, and WRITTEN IN SARASOTA pressed into the lower corner, where the writing will catch up to it.

The deep wine one turned out especially handsome, with dusty lavender beside it.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
