The Sandy Neck Collection -- Yarmouthport, Massachusetts leather studies

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

An August study.

The Sandy Neck Collection is a set of five leather designs rooted in Yarmouthport, Massachusetts, from luggage tags and keychains to journals.

First, Sandy Neck itself. The barrier beach runs the whole length of a luggage tag – dune grass at one end, the light at the far tip, its beam swung back over the dunes. The trio wears bay navy and bog wine, with a pale greige standing in for the sand.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

Next, the keychains. Whoever holds the keys is the keeper, so we hung a lit lantern over the word KEEPER. The black fob carries the lantern in gold – a light taken into the dark.

Then, PROVISIONS for the toiletry bags – six jars on one shelf, pressed into the corner of a bay-navy and dark-espresso stack. A kit like this is provisions for the road.

A catchall is where a day empties its pockets, so the tray reads WHAT THE TIDE LEFT – the tide line drawn across the golden tan base, a scallop shell here, a stem of dune grass there.

And finally, the one we liked the most. A lighthouse keeper closed every night's log with the same words, and a journal deserves the same ending – ruled lines, then ALL IS WELL, the beacon showing at the end of the line. On deep marsh green and warm tan. Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.
