The Sweet Spring Collection × Lititz – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies. Volume I-C.
A September study.
The Sweet Spring Collection – four original stamps drawn for Lititz, Pennsylvania, and pressed into leather.
First, we drew a hard candy still in its twist wrapper and set A LITTLE SOMETHING SWEET beneath it – the promise every small gift makes.
It runs lengthwise along the luggage tags, in poppy red and fuchsia, and in pale sea-blue like old soda glass. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.
Next, the pretzel. The first commercial pretzel bakery opened in Lititz in 1861, and visitors still learn the hand twist – so we twisted one in black and set the town above it, the year below.
The keychains, in caramel and dark espresso, turned out awesome.
The same twist sits in the corner of the toiletry bag, caramel over sicilian brown.
Then we went to the springs. Working from the park's own historical views, we drew the stone-rimmed basin with its channel running down between the benches, and wrote EVENINGS SINCE 1778 beneath – the year the park's record first mentions evening concerts at the water.
It looks genuinely beautiful on the journal covers, in forest green and gray sand – a book for whatever gets thought of on a bench.
And finally, the candles. Christmas in the Park began in 1994 with a thousand candles along the stream, so we set two rows of flame on a winding waterline and pressed them into the base of the golden tan catchall tray – the tray your pockets empty into after a walk down Main Street.
