The Glacier & The Mill × Leatherius Woodman – an Elmira Heights leather collection – Volume I-D

A September study. Volume I-D.
The Glacier & The Mill – a small leather collection for Elmira Heights, a village of makers in the Finger Lakes country, where the ice left eleven long lakes in the hills.
First, we counted the region's glacial lakes – eleven – and drew them as the ice left them, a row of long slow strokes with the words beneath.
Looks great when stamped onto the leather – journals in pale sea-blue and deep green for the water and the hills, and the tray in golden tan.
Next, we redrew the knitting mill that worked here from 1893 to 1963 – the arched windows and the water tank – and ran it the long way down the luggage tags, in honeyed russet and deep green.
The black tag carries the gold – and looks absolutely gorgeous doing it.
Then, since the village once built bicycles, we set a rider climbing a hill made of the village's own name. Keychains in warm tan and navy.
And finally, the Oak Ridge Hotel, built in 1894 to sell rides on the new electric streetcar and gone since 1916. We drew it back from a photograph of its day and pressed it low on the toiletry bags – a hotel that now checks in wherever its owner does. The stack wears warm gray over deep espresso, as monochrome as the photograph.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
