The Honor System - a Yarmouth Port leather collection
An August collection.
Yarmouth Port keeps its stories close together – captains' houses shoulder to shoulder along the Old King's Highway, and, in at least one doorway, books still sold on trust after closing time. We pressed five designs from that world into leather, luggage tags through journals, and named the collection for the village's oldest retail policy.
First, the road every visitor arrives by. We set OLD KINGS HIGHWAY in antique capitals and let the road itself be the underline – two thin lines winding past a milestone marked 6A, with a small crown overhead. It runs lengthwise along the luggage tags, blind on caramel and forest green. The black tag carries the crown in gold.
Next, the after-hours arrangement itself – take the book, slide the payment under the door. The die catches the coin halfway under the bottom rail, with TRUST AFTER DARK beneath. A keychain spends its life in a pocket full of change, which is exactly where this one belongs. The sangria fob presses blind; the black fob carries the coin in gold.
Then a working chart of Cape Cod Bay – a compass rose over open water dotted with soundings, and the shoreline curling into its familiar hook. It sits small in the corner of the toiletry bags, navy stacked over chestnut.
Looks great when stamped onto the leather.
After that, the noon whistle. For decades it sounded over the village at twelve sharp and everyone set their work down. A catchall tray gives the same order to your pockets at the end of the day, so the whistle went to the center of the golden tan tray, sound rings and all.
And finally, the one we liked the most. Every rare book on every shelf was somebody's blank page once. So the journals carry FIRST EDITION in a double-ruled frame with a quill and inkwell – whatever gets written inside is, by definition, exactly that. Deep wine and pale greige, like an old binding beside its endpaper.
It looks genuinely beautiful.
