The Open Table – a Broomfield, Colorado leather collection

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

A September study – Volume I-A.

The Open Table is a small leather collection rooted in Broomfield, Colorado – open prairie on one side, open game nights on the other. We stamped it across luggage tags and campaign journals, with keychains and a catchall tray along for the ride, and named it for the seat that is always free.

First, we rolled the sun. A twenty comes up over the prairie grass like first light, rays thrown wide, and arched above it stand the words ROLL FOR INITIATIVE – the phrase that begins every encounter, pressed into the tags that begin every trip. We put it on navy and on golden tan; the black tag carries the design in gold.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.

Next, we stood a lone meeple in the tall grass, a low ridge far behind, and titled it LOCAL CHARACTER – the piece you play and the person you are. This one is from Broomfield.

Keychains wearing the little meeple look just awesome too.

Then we drew a route for the journals: a dotted line that leaves home, loops past every distraction on the map and only then finds its X, under the words WE TOOK THE LONG WAY. The detour is where the story happens; a journal is where it gets written down. We pressed it on warm tan and on navy.

For the catchall tray we made a ruling: two dice at rest inside a ring of words reading THE ROLL STANDS, pressed at generous size into the golden tan base. Whatever lands there lies where it fell – dice and keys alike.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

And finally, for the corner of the navy toiletry bag, a compact stamp: HAVE DICE WILL TRAVEL, above a drawstring pouch tipped mid-spill. For the player whose next table is a convention away.
