The Regulars – a Bryan, Texas leather stamping study, Volume II

A September study – Volume II.
Bryan, Texas sits in river country where the best company keeps coming back. The pelicans return to Lake Bryan every winter, and the mammoths, every so often, still come up out of the ground. The Regulars is a small collection in their honor – five original designs, pressed into leather from luggage tag to catchall tray.
First, the tags. In winter the American White Pelicans come down to Lake Bryan and settle onto the water like it was reserved for them, so we drew one riding the calm and gave it the society line it has earned – WINTERS AT LAKE BRYAN.
It looks genuinely beautiful. The tags travel in navy and pale warm greige. The black tag carries the pelican in gold.
Next, the keychains. All summer the Blue Dashers hold the air over the lake's shoreline, and BLUE DASHER is also a fair description of anyone halfway out the door with their keys. We drew the dragonfly from above, wings spread wide.
Keychains with the dragonfly stamp look just awesome – one in navy, one in golden tan.
Then the catchall tray. Whole mammoth skulls have come out of the ground near the Brazos, so we set one walking across the golden tan base over the words STILL TURNING UP – the same promise a catchall tray makes about your keys.
Then Mary. After the flood of December 1913, the valley commissioned a cypress rescue skiff so the next high water would find it prepared. We drew her long open hull with her name at the bow, over the words READY FOR THE NEXT ONE – which is what a packed toiletry bag says about the next trip. One bag in navy, one in deep brown.
And finally, the journals. Every spring, people here carry pencils and watercolors out to where the bluebonnets stand and draw them where they grow. So we grew a bluebonnet straight out of a pencil and set DRAWN FROM LIFE beneath it.
It looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather – one journal in deep green, the other in pale warm greige.
