The Slow Desert – a Scottsdale leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.
A September study.
Volume I-B.
A small collection for Old Town Scottsdale, pressed into leather. We call it The Slow Desert.
First, the one for everyone who migrates. We set a small bird gliding down toward a saguaro horizon and wrote BACK EVERY WINTER beneath the flight – a luggage tag for people whose luggage knows the way south. Black carries the gold; the golden tan and pale greige tags take a plain blind press.
Next, the patient one. A saguaro waits some fifty years before it grows a first arm, so we drew that exact moment and set WORTH THE WAIT beneath it – once on pale greige, once on deep espresso.
Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.
Then a Gambel's quail at a dead run, topknot leaning into the wind, HOME BY DUSK underneath. It rides the keychains in warm tan and deep green, and it waits at the bottom of the golden tan tray where the keys land every evening.
Keychains with the quail stamp look just awesome.
And finally, a round seal for the toiletry bag: a ridgeline at sunrise, one saguaro standing watch, KEPT WILD across the lower half. Scottsdale chose, by vote, to leave more than thirty thousand acres of its desert alone – the seal lets a little of that ride along, pressed blind into golden tan and into chestnut.
